School Readiness Program

School Readiness Program Information

Families with low incomes in Florida who are working or participating in educational programs may be eligible for School Readiness assistance.

The School Readiness Program offers financial assistance to low-income families for early education and care so families can become financially self-sufficient and their young children can be successful in school in the future.

Services vary based on individual need and range from extended day to extended year and school-age care.

The program takes into account a child's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development; involves parents as their child's first teacher; prepares children to be ready for school; and gives parents information about child development and other topics of interest.

School Readiness programs provide developmental screenings for children and referrals to health and educational specialists, and work in cooperation with other programs for young children.

The School Readiness Program is open to qualifying families that apply in person or through the simplified point of entry. As funding becomes available, children are placed in the program according to Florida's established priorities. Parents or caregivers are assigned a parent fee based on the Coalition's sliding fee scale.

The Coalition works to offer parents a wide variety of early learning options for their children, including licensed child care centers, license-exempt child care centers, family child care homes, and school-based classrooms. The Coalition works to ensure that all participating providers offer quality programs that meet the requirements of law.
